Try push/pulling on the rods, there should be no play in the bearings. A little side to side slide is fine, but no push/pull play.
The next step is to check over the welds, no cracks, etc. If it's not welded, now is the time.
Lastly, you need someone to put the crank in a stand and check it for true. Need a crank stand and a dial caliper to check the ends of it.
