Am new to the part of the sport dealing with building yourself but am gonna try it. I am pretty sure that if I take my time, and think things through I will have no problems. Was just wandering which would be a easier platform to modify. Gonna be looking for a drag oriented build. Either a Raptor 660 or a YFZ 450. Just wanted to drop in a stroker crank, drag pipe, just the basics but i wanna do it by myself. Is there anything that I might need to know before starting this project. Like will there be any porting, or timing issues that might change with just dropping in a stroker crank. But i want to start with the easier platform just for the learning experience. Sorry for all the new questions, just wanna get into the sport a little more seriously and do my own work.( I think it will make me feel alot better if I can do something like this and it turns out to be a huge success) Thanks for your time. All input would be greatly appreciated.

Well, my bro has aan 08 with the big 3, and its kind of disappointing. And i'm not sure im ready to take on fuel injection. Im looking for the cheapest, fastest, easiest way to build a drag/play 4-stroke while my banshees being built.

The yfz will take less $ to make it Fast IMO but i have seen some Fast 660r builds that where like 720's and they ran hard.

It will depend on your budget with the build and also depend on how cheap you can pickup either bike.

I have a yfz stock bore drag bike that runs pretty good but i will also be building a 762cc 660r based build and both will be drag bikes.

i ve seen some ok 660's ... austin oneal has a 760 craycraft rap.. my buddy has a 686 craycraft rap and my stock cyln shee (with a little porting and bolt ons ) would take it...

if go with the yfz.... or make sure u get a late 660.. i think 01's had the tranny prob... i hate the shifter on the 660's... but i also hate the seat on the yfz's....

im not looking to be the fastest. which of the two in your opinion would be easier to work on and cheaper parts. Only looking to spend around $1200 after buying the machine

Ya 04 but that was mainly because of no oil getting to the piston pin and cause it to gull up and then lock up.
So tht is why they came up with the oil mod, plus the stock piston's do not have any oiling holes in them like the CP pistons do.
That is why i always say use a cp piston over anything else.

I got a 700 raptor and it is a hoss. I like everything about it. The fuel injection is way easier to mess with than the carbs are. I run in the 4.3s at Atoka Sand Drags and I am the four stroke record holder at Thunder road sand drags with a 4.26. Something about your bro's bike just isnt dialed in right. My son has a yfz so I have seen it from both sides. I also race against the 660 based raptors all of the time includeing Austins and I personally think the 700 raptor has alot more to offer. Just my 02 cents.

QUOTE (SANDPLAYAZ @ Jun 21 2008, 01:39 AM) index.php?act=findpost&pid=3321i agree with trent! i realy like the 700s

did yall swich bikes? the rider has alot to do with it! most of the time

never raced when we switched ... but the YFZ still felt faster to me ... we both were getting pretty decent starts, off the line for the first 100ft or so i would be in front, after about mid-high 3rd gear, he would pass me
