I had to make a quick stop into the ER last nite. I was wrenching on the saber clutch and wasn't being as safe as I should have been. Remember everybody SAFETY FIRST!!
I ended up with 7 stitches and got to see what the bone and such looks like inside of a finger.....its not something I care to look at again!!
Would you believe the doctor would not even give me a prescription for pain killers!! Come on now! This is a serious boo-boo!!!. LOL, actually the tetnis shot hurts worse than my finger!!!!!

I counted twice, I can only see three fingers, did you lop one of them clean off? Just kidding, your a tuff guy, I'll bet you went straight home from the hospital and finished installing that clutch. lol
I'll explain this in detail.
I run the GP slingshot lockup so my inner hub is modified. This lets the 5 poles that the springs/bolts stick out much farther than what your used to. In the attached pic you will see the two bolts that have the heads drilled out out of. THOSE are what sliced my knuckle. Just picture yourself grabbing that socket in one hand and holding light tension on it so the tranny dont spin up to 6000rpm from the impact. you can figure out the rest!
I should have taken out the drilled out bolts.....but didn't. I should have had on some leather glover to, but didn't. Trust me, I wont do that one again!!!
Trent, the tetnis shot is MUCH worse than my wound. My little arm feels like its about to fall off!

I kind of figured that is what happened. Why? Because that is pretty much the only thing I could come up with when thinking "how the heck could a clutch send you to the hospital..." hah
QUOTE (blasterman88 @ Jun 25 2008, 01:16 AM) index.php?act=findpost&pid=3657so is thst why the clutch wouldnt hold bobby, those bolts broke??
No broken bolts, just stripped out the little 4mm button head. I had to drill off the bolt head (2).
Nope. But I'll tell you, I made some custom washers designed to decrease the over all length of the spring as it is bolted in the clutch. My current setup has the spring sitting at 1.165. Thats the installed height of the spring. I made those washers to go in the bottom of the spring pocket. This allows the spring to be compressed shorter to net more pressure to hold that big ol' 510's torque! What I failed to do was make sure the hole in the washer did not bottom out on the pole at the bottom of the spring pocket. If you look close at the pole it gets gradually larger at the base. This is what happened to me. I had at least one spring that was seated against the washer BUT the washer was NOT seated in the slingshot lockup. Therefore I only had 4 springs holding as I launched.
The problem of the washers is gone now. My only concern is do I have enough power to slip the clutch again???? Not supposed to but I hope so!!!LOL
I have installed some SPECIAL springs that net me 90lbs each at the the installed height that I set them at. I even went the extra mile to install 25 tungsten carbide balls to simulate 3 rows of balls......By golly I bet my clutch issues are over!!!!!
Once I put some miles on these springs and know that they will work clutch application I'll hook you up with where to get them.
QUOTE (turbo bobby @ Jul 13 2008, 08:18 PM) index.php?act=findpost&pid=5188Man its healed up great! Just a little sore but works fine.
I was taking a pipe apart last week and I was separating the header from the body of the pipe. It had a bunch of carbon/rust in it and would not come apart. So I am pulling on it pretty much as hard as I could (because it wasn't moving), and rocking it back and forth and the thing finally separates. The exhaust flange comes back and slams into my finger into the belly of the pipe and cuts through my fingernail, and into the meat. Blood splatters all over my face...and now my finger currently looks like it went through a meat grinder.
