Ran the tank a little too low racing (alky)

While racing at Outlaw Sand Drags Saturday, I noticed I barely had any alky in the tank of my 14 mil Cheetah. After the pass, the transfers were too hot to touch; and still warm 30 minutes later. I was told that it was spitting sparks out of the pipes. After I refueled and made a pass, it still got hot and shot sparks. Pjs were a quarter turn in, and I'd ran it in much colder air and similar elevation b/f, so I doubt it was lean due to the jetting. Also, I was running a little slower e.t. and mph each pass.

I took the top end apart and found no damage. The pistons and cylinders look perfect, except for black on top of the pistons where they got hot. I've got some pistons ordered anyway, but are the others still okay after getting that hot? Is there anything else I should check? And most importantly...where in the hell did the sparks come from???

Well, I got the new pistons and rings in, and they don't have windows in them. I just ordered by the wiseco number from a dealer. It seems my pistons have custom machined round windows (2 in each piston). I guess I'll just re-use the old ones until I can get the new ones cut, as they are probably fine. BUT I nicked the top of one while taking the cylinders off. There is a tiny 1mm(?) wide gash where the sharp bottom of the sleeve hit. Do I need to file that down? Will the tiny piece of metal that protrudes out of the gash "glow" and cause the motor to diesel?
Will try to take some pics when I get home. Thanks.
My bike used to do the same thing.. Before it would a burn a hole thru the top, the windows would crack and the spark plug electrode would burn off..
Always check the windows after you you run a bike out of alcohol.. just in case.. that window will destroy a crank..

I didn't burn a plug. I will look the pistons over a little better before reinstalling. Don't know when I'll get pics; I'm not in charge of our digital cameras.
