I know that the track record at Newtown Dragway was broken 2 weeks ago.Jeff Guillot laid down a 2.74 pass at 122 mph, with a 1.10 60 ft and then backed it up with another 2.74 pass.Hope to see some new faces at Newtown in sept.for the fall national event.
yea its fast but i don't see what that thing has to do with a ATV, its like 20ft long with a motor with 1200 crazy horse power . looks more like a drag rail car than a atv. i think for something to hold a ATV record , it at lest needs to look somewhat like a atv . but each to his on
Congrats to Jeff and crew for getting it done.
I'm in the same boat, Carolina... At the ATV bash at WMSD, yes...ATV Bash, there was a dragster with a "motorcycle" based engine...that was allowed to run.
I just had to smile and raise an eyebrow on that one....

I completely, 100% agree!!! There is nothing about that thing that is atv based. Besides, it may hold the planetsand record but who gives a blank about planetsand. Just because it holds thier record doesnt mean anyone else has to recognise it. When a bike with thier name on it breaks a big record they make a big deal out of it. News Flash this and News Flash that, bla bla bla. But when Mr Hp for example, broke into the 3s back when it was unheard of and impossible and has continued to break his own records ever since, they dont say squat about that. IF Packard would ever break the Single record, then youll here all about it over there LOL. No offense to Packard.
My point is, it sucks that they can pick and choose who they support and recognise (even when everyone plays by thier rules) and contiue to get they following they have.
BTW, I tried to make this very same point over there, and Mr Planetsand himself deleted my posts and scolded me for it LOL.
don't get me wrong i applause him for going that fast. i know it took a lot of hard work ,but i all so believe it has its place , kinda like win they bring the jet cars to the drag strip for exhibition's . but cant see it being a atv maybe if that motor was on a stretched out atv frame , that you site on top of the motor . maybe i would see it differently . but like i said ,each to his on
This was taken from the NSRA Records page for the AA/Pro Bike record rules and regulations. I for one think this bike can definitely be described as an atv. The roots of the sport of going fast, before banshees were even around, is when guys were building three wheelers with bike motors. They were even put h2 motors in frames before there was a banshee. Heck I even have some article some where that a guy put an alcohol injected big block chevy in three wheeler. Is it right that planetsand did what they did by making some huge new flash about, and then to not count it because it was not at one of their "premiere events" no I don't think so. But like I said I do feel that this is considered an atv.
I guess the question is when/where is the fine line bewteen atv and somthing else. How would you differentiate between a atv and something else? Maybe a maximum wheelbase? If its just number of wheels.. then like Dave said a dragsters with street bike motors are allowed to run.
As the rules stats he's got a ATV so the record should be recognized. He was going by the same rules as everyone else..
They have already sort of done this by not letting automotive motors be allowed to run in planetsand events, but the nsra doesn't have the same views on this. I feel that automotive engines should not be allowed to run in the same classes. I know that they have let cars powered by motorcycle and snowmobile engines run at all the planetsand events, as well as other atv races around the country.
It is not a Planet Sand Record Holder, even though Newton recently was certified as a PS track/PSDRA official track.
In order to get PS record, you must run at one of their two official events, Either Gilbert in the spring or AVI in the fall.
That came right from PS himself.
PS does not recognize this as a record. They are promoting the time, which is VERY, Very impressive to say the least and hats off to the whole crew, driver, etc.
I've always been one for rule changes to reflect what's going on currently in the sport.
I applaud the snowmobile guys for as fast as they're going, etc., but I don't think they should be in the same classes as someone who has to manually shift gears...override or not.
Let me rephrase...
In heads up...fine, run what ya brung cc for cc. But any kind of bracket racing or index racing....the classes should be further refined.
I know...I know, that will create more classes, require more effort to organize, etc.
But I know there are plenty of us who ride ATV based motors/frames etc. that feel the same way....
Again, not knocking the Wild thing crew...great job!!!!
Perhaph to be considered a atv, the base motor has to be based on a production ATV motor. Example: Banshee, 250R, Reptor, DS650....ect. Maybe using stock components at a percentage in the area of 30% of the motor. Just a thought. Make it ok to upgrade components to stronger versions, but same overall specs.

Thats a good point. I dont know if I completely agree, but it definentaly makes me look at it different.
