rider 's weight & gearing?

Guys I need some help with gearing. How much does rider's weight come into play in gearing? let say one rider is running 16/44 gearing and he is running 14 paddles at 78 ro and weighs 175 lbs. and he is lining up again same bike with a 250 lb rider.. what gearing would heavy guy need to run if he has same 78 ro ?

or is it better to change paddle#'s & RO?

or if you can explain it better in simple terms please do..

weight plays a HUGE difference...but I personally get a set of paddles/ro and gear around them. the distance of a race matters as well.
ok then how about this I have 14 paddle extremes with 78 ro I want to run 300 ' on 10 mil with my fat azz where should I start in gearing?

I know for fact that my biggest comp. is running 16/44 on 78 ro too..but he is light weight. I know I not going to beat him by any means , but I need to quick as I can..lol
I ran 16/44 on mine, 14 extreme but the rollout was only 73 or 74.
I just switched to 45 out back, but I don't know how much difference it makes until I get to run at the track I ride at 90% of the time.
I was slower across the board @ WMSD...first time out with that gearing.
I always thought if more weight was added to the bike you would need a little lower gearing to make up the difference.

I have a 350 and i am running a 14-40 gearing with 73ro 14 extremes and i weight 160#s

Dont know if that helps
I ran 17-38 and 17-40 on the 510 saber. Tires are 82" 14 paddle extreme (heavy suckers!) It went 4.18 at 76mph in a chassis that weighs in at 240 with a 160lb rider. I run 1st to 4th in the gears.
Just thought I'd throw that out there....

Hey Bobby, What kind of a 1st gear do yo have in that? billet? If so, where did ya get it?

I went with a 2-4 on my stock frame saber because I was afraid it was going to break 1st gear. I would like to go with a 1-4 but not sure if if would last with my fat 220IBS on it.

All stock honda gears.
Last year I bought a Billet 1st gear from MR Sabertooth himself (Neal) and broke the teeth off of it on the second time out.
That was a 230 dollar MISTAKE!!
Those broke teeth destroyed my whole transmission. So actually Neals gear cost me about 500 dollars.
More than that if I didn't know how to do the override modification!!

I have managed to bust 2nd get, sent it through the case. I just purchased the Yukon gear 250r gear set off ebay. I hope they are good stout gears...I am sure they are better than stock 20 plus years old stuff!!!
