I am buying a 250r that runs on alcohol and i need to know what all i'm going to have to do. I know you have to purge it after riding or what not. I have been hearing about talk about top end lube or something of that nature. I just want to know what i have to do to to run it.... like put in it before i ride besides oil. Also heard something about having to change the oil after every ride.lol. i know i typed a lot but i just wanna know what i'm getting into. Any help is appreciated. Thanks, Josh.

you just have to run a oil that will mix with meth. Like 927, or Supertechniplate. you do not need to change the oil after every run. You will have to run a B9 series plug. other then that just purge it and run the oil a little richer then gas. I ran gas 36:1 and alky 32:1. you can purge it with just pump gas and yamalube rahter then buying race gas and supertechniplate. go to napa and you can buy a universal radiator overflow and make it into a purge bottle.
ok well i usually run my gas 32:1
As said...as long as you run a methanol approved oil as your premix, you're fine.

I know guys that run 20:1, some run all the way to 40:1...

I run 28:1 and use Klotz Supertechniplate...

Make sure your purge oil is compatible with methanol too (I use the same oil, and mix my purge oil/gas at 20:1) because the purge fuel will mix with the methanol in the carb.

When you purge, you're basically washing/burning off the methanol in the motor because left sitting, it is corrosive and draws moisture, it will cause parts to rust inside your motor.
I purge mine until it literally fouls out plugs.....
OK and the purge gas does it have to be 110 octane or can it be like 91
I use premium for my purge, you are sitting there, not holding it wide open or putting any load on it...
I've used Premium (92 to 94) for the last two years, no issues...

I hold mine 1/4 throttle or so till I can feel the engine start to stumble a bit, then hold it about 1/2 throttle to keep it revving until it'll barely run and then fouls the plugs... As much alky and smoke as it blows out the exhaust, it'll blow even more out from the purge oil/gas...

We call it bug fogging...LOL.

Quick disconnects make purging simple and quick... There is a post by Radar I believe about fuel pump placement, I put pics of the quick disconnects in there.
All this info is great thanks. Do i have to run a pump though? i dont think there is one on it now and thats the way its been running i'm assuming
If the carbs you are running require a pump.... The needle and seat on a pumper carbs is a smaller orifice, because it relies on pump pressure to fill the bowl. Gravity fed require...well...gravity. Sometimes....gravity isn't enough...

I ran alky all spring and summer in my bike. I probly purged it 4 times. The trick I found is to fire it up every day and let it run for a bit. I would purge if I let it set for more than a couple days. I havent had any issues, and everything looks fine. Just be careful and purge if she sits!
Some people that don't live in the sticks don't have that option...JD...

I cringe when I gotta purge mine at home....LOL...I'm sure the neighbors LOVE me....

It's the moisture that methanol sucks out of the air, that's why it's critical to keep it sealed when not in use...

hahahaha, you got me there! Well instead of pissing the neighbors off every time you ride, why not take the libery to piss them off everyday?? Hey nighbor, this stuff is hygroscopic, you wouldt want that to mess up now would ya!?!

Pissing off the neighbors is one thing. Pissin' off the po po with shiny lights and a siren is another...cause one leads to the other....and I don't make any money sitting in jail or going to court for this stuff...

My neighbors are cool, I just tell them, hey...gonna be loud in the garage for 5 minutes, please bear with me.
A little courtesy always goes a LONG way....

My bike got wrecked last year on the ice, popped the chain, popped one of the pipes off...
I got it home, never purged it...etc. Took the top end off about 2 weeks later, there was rust on the crank.

My buddy lives in the sticks as well just starts it up every now and then rides it and puts it up.
