It depends on the humidity of your area, and it needs to be stored up off the concrete, but here in dry ca., I would call it bad after about 6 mos. If you really want to get technical about it you measure it with a hydrometer.

no not trying to get technical just a ballpark time. It is very humid here in Va. I was wondering if like 2-3 months? or 4-6 weeks? or what. better yet how can you tell on alky? does it turn color or anything or getting white strings ?
