Hello All,
I am new to the site but as i can see this seems to be the best on the net with knowledge and help, I am a member of planet sand, banshee hq, etc and I am truely impressed.

Well I am in a bind I have a 04 shee with a vitos 404 monoblock setup dont ask not a fan but got the bike at a deal, it has 35mm air strikers on gas stoke stroke atock rod length crank, 68.5mm bore, 20cc domes, oof drag pipes, vforce 3's, timing plate, nology ign, k&n pods.

I found a set of lectrons 36 or 38mm not sure yet, set up for alky from a local racer he said they are setup for no pump and a drag ported 4mil, he is asking $300 for the pair his bike ran pretty hard just wondering if this would be worth picking up as i have ran alky before but never lectrons just pwk's. I was impressed with alky power so its not really a question if i wanna go alky or not just are the carbs worth the money.

Another dilemma I am at as my 04 has a stock strock and rod length crank i can get a 4mil crank from another friend for next to nothing and i mean nothing trade for a stock set of cylinders and crank i have wrapped up in a box doing me no good. The crank is a hot rods 4mil long rod and just needs outer bearings installed. I am gonna get the crank but I have reg big bore pistons for a short rod. I wanted to do a cheap 4mil without costing me too much as i have alot on my plate with a 4mil cheetah setup and a 7mil cub for my tri-shee. I was looking yesterday and noticed vito's makes a rather large spacer plate that compensates for the 4mil and the long rod so i will not have to get offset pistons, nor get domes or addition portwork again this is a budget build just something to beat on. The lectrons will be put on this motor if i decide to buy them. The plate from vito's is like 80 bucks but im just woried about rod angle and what not I dont want it to explode upon start up. Thats the layout just wanted opinons and answers.
I know that the plate is a cheap way out and not the most efficient I was just wanting to do it on the cheap

Again thanks
Chris

Well i can say this much, look ont he lectrons and see if they say 36/38 is so they are 36 HV lectrons either way if they have the needles and are setup on alky i would buy them that is a pretty good price.
I am running a set of 36mm HV lectrons on my drag ported 350 and love them.

Now as far as the spacer under your cylinders for the 4mil i dont see why it wouldnt work but i dont think you will see a true gain from the crank in there with out checking the port timing.

But i am not 100% for sure i am still learning on the shee's my self.

But i know i am correct on the carbs...lol

thanks for your input I will check the carbs out and if they check out they will be purchased and will be used. I might get some alky domes cut as well

I am still kinda sceptical about the big [censored] spacer plate but still might say hell with it and go for it.
Also quick question about Lectrons
Is there a number on the needle so i can call packard and see if these will work with my set up?
I might just call and order a gas set ane a new alky set just for piece of mind.

Also is a pump necessary or will a pingel do the trick, these do not have the billet bowls?
Yes there should be #'s on the needles, i run a PE-1 alky needle on my bike and does great once i got them tuned in.

I run just a pingle on my carbs and have not had any issue with them running out of fuel.

Cool good to know
I have a dial caliper with me to check the size of the carbs but it will say 36/38 on the side

he said they were 36-38's I was like wtf then i head about teh high velocity ones

thanks again man
chris
Yes they will say what size they are on the side of them.
id at least trade for the crank... get the good bearing and also make sure its trued and welded. i know alot of people say to go ahead and weld the hot rods for insurance...

if hold on to the 4 mill and weight till u had a little extra $ and maybe do alittle portin or get the right pistons.. im sure the plate wont hurt... i was lookin into when i had my stock ported cyln.

i beliveve the is also 2 diffrent spacer plates.
First off dont worry about running a plate at all they are fine IMO. You need to degree out the cylinder and see what the port timing is or measure the height of the exh and transfers and post back. I good builder could probably make it work. A 4mm stroke change usually changes the exh about 8 degrees higher and the transfers 9 degrees assuming they were in the normal 194/125 degree range. Then you'd have 202/134. I know of some guys that have done the exact thing but honestly I'd try to make it a hard running 54 stroke motor or part it and start over with either stock cyls or a new 58mm setup. I have a degree wheel I can email you that you can print off. I just went with the part out and start over route.
One more thing Vitos of all companys is a company that will sell a cylinder setup that will work with a 54 or 58 stroke crank you just need to find out if the monoblock is one. It might work fine with domes. Get the lectrons that sounds like a good deal.
Well picked up the lectrons today
will be installed and tuned this weekend
they are 38mm carbs that reduce to 36
I am gonna clean them up and see how they do
They have the pe1 rods in them.

If im not mistaked do i need a new throttle cable or will the ones off my 35mm keihn's work?

Im gonna read up on how to tune them with the metering rod pj is easy the rod I have never messed with before.

Any suggestions?
I can tell you the standard throttle cable would not fully open my 40mm lectrons....I had to get a cable from Packard.
I'm not sure about the smaller...

IT is a nice, rebuild able cable though....
You will have to get a aftermarket cable to get the carbs all the way open like they should be.
You might also need a aftermarket throttle .
As always I preface my statement with if we all did it the same- you'd go to Wal-Mart and buy your two stroke stuff....

IMO plates are for dinner. Not for building high performance two stroke engines. Put the port timing where they should be, not where some convenient spacer plate dictates. Yes- absolutely you can cut corners and slop together some motor that will work. But why not do it right?

My experience in the past with the Vito's monoblock stuff has been they have pretty stockish port timings. In such you will likely be able to put the 4mm crank in on the stock stroke set-up and the port timings will be favorable and conducive to a well tuned engine. Yes you need to buy domes- but domes are almost the cost of a spacer plate. In knowing how those cylinders' porting arrangement was- regardless of what you may try to do with bolt-on stuff you will never see the benefit of what a decent port job would do. Stock stroke or 4mm. With of course slight favor to the 4mm's wider power spread.

With many hours of porting work the Vito's cylinders can be comparable to a Cub set-up. With the 4mm LR crank you can use Blaster pistons and custom stroker domes, get the porting sorted out- and the thing WILL rip!
