Difference between an experienced rider and a novice right there. Since you were just cruising around, you knew enough to shut her down before it got worse.

What's in store for the new build?

While your at it Have that cylinder Stainless steel O-ringed. It will help the motor live a little longer because it will keep the coolant out of that cylinder. Those cylinders are notorious for leaking just a little, and that's enough to cause problems.

I can give instructions on how to o-ring a cylinder if anyone needs it. You need a lathe and the ability to take your time and do a good job. Pretty easy but if you screw it up your cylinder is junk.

Anytime we ran nitrous, nitro, or even high compression on a bore larger than 96mm we would o-ring it especially on the billet cylinders. Its just cheap insurance.
